There are plenty of great restaurants in Roses where you can taste the local produce cooked by well known master chefs of the area. In 2012 El Bulli changed from being a restaurant and became the Bulli Foundation, set up to investigate new techniques in haute cuisine. It?s the birthplace of Ferran Adrià considered by many to be the best chef in the world, his restaurant El Bulli, is in Cala Monjoi de Roses. In Catalonian cuisine, and particularly the traditional food of Roses, most the dishes are made with local fresh fish, this is used to make the traditional Suquet de Peix, a dish made with local fresh fish cooked in a traditional sauce. Roses is mostly an animated town, and has all types of fun and entertainment on offer, for all the ages. In Roses you will be able to find apartment rentals that are affordable and have a great atmosphere. In my opinion, it?s the best time of year to come and visit us. The festival ends with a firework display that lights up the whole bay. There is also plenty of music and dancing classical, Cuban, local and not forgetting the giants that come out to dance and parade around. On the 15th of August, we celebrate the main festival of Roses, dedicated to the Virgen del Carmen who according to Christian tradition protects the seamen processions by boat are held in her honour during this festival. The 29th of June, is the festival of Saint Peter, patron saint of the fishermen. It is a Christian festival that is linked with the pagan summer solstice. If you are in Roses on this day then you most go swimming at night time so as to attract luck. It?s the shortest night of the year and full of ritual. On the 23rd of June, we hold the Fiesta del Fuego (Fire Party) that symbolises the beginning of summer. Carnival is held every February, I recommend that you book a hotel in Roses at least 4 weeks in advance if you plan to come and take part. The town loves the traditional carnival held every year and all the residents fully immerse themselves in the festivities. The city has a rich, local tradition, an intangible heritage from a town that dates back more than 1000 years but that is constantly evolving. You can also see while here the remains that different civilizations from the past have left as a legacy, one of the most important among these being the Ciutadella de Roses. The park is very well set out, enabling you to easily do some bird watching, and other animal watching too. A natural enclave next to the sea, here the fresh water reservoirs offer food and shelter to a great number of different bird species. There is also another natural park, the Aiguamolls de L?Įmpordá. In Empuriabrava there?s an airfield where you can take out small planes and even go parachuting?if you dare. There are water sports like windsurfing, sailing, fishing, diving, and then there?s trekking, bike riding around the area Aiguamolls de l?Emporda area, and horse riding. There are also things for the more active tourists to take part in while staying in Roses. They are of great value ecologically and offer beautiful scenery. Cala Jóncols, Cala Montjoi, and Cala Pelosa. The Cap de Creus coves are all in the Natural Park Cap de Creus. There are also some beautiful beaches that you have to visit while in Roses, with fine white sand and great services.
